The Future

So, a group project is coming up and I'm sure the question on everyone's mind is the same: What are we going to write about?

Obviously, this class revolves greatly, if not one hundred percent, around social media. We've covered the history of social media and how we've gone from the classic version of the BBS to what we've got today, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. It's been incredibly interesting, in my opinion, to learn of the history of it all and we've gone from that to what we know now in 2017. But, what about the future?

What about blogs? Blogging is still a huge component of interactions between people on the Internet; but it has been twisted slightly. Ever heard of vlogs? Vlogs are video versions of blogs. People log onto their computers, phones, tablets, or whatever else they use, sit down, and begin to type for their blogs. A vlog is almost the same, but not quite. People grab their phones, cameras, tablet, or whatever else, and film. They film where they are, what they're doing, and who they're with. They go home, begin to edit, then post it to whatever social media site they use. Here's a short film by Julien Solomita, explaining and giving some sort of insight of what a vlog is.

I'm sure you're asking, "So what? Why do I care about vlogs?" You might not care, but you should. Vlogs are taking over! The future of social media could mean saying goodbye to blogs, like we said goodbye to MySpace, and focusing on vlogging instead.

What about technology? Imagine this; you put on glasses and suddenly, it is as if you're in Greece, taking in all the beautiful, historical sites. Except-- you don't have to imagine. Virtual reality devices are taking the technology world by storm. So, imagine it being mixed in with social media. You'd be able to see what others, like your "friends", have to say. Here's a video with some thoughts and ideas of how the future for social media and technology would be.

Advertisement. The clickbait that we love to hate, and hate to love. Have you thought about the future of social media marketing? The best tip for those who are looking to get their product out there-- whether it is a website, product, or anything in between-- is to aim for putting your advertisements on the most popular websites. Also, how you express your ads is important. The video below describes how advertisers can keep up as the future comes to make sure they get the most out of their products.

The future is something a lot of people worry about. When it comes to the future of social media and the way us humans are going to react, it can also be sort of a scary thought. Will there be robots? Will websites like Facebook be forgotten about, just like MySpace? No one knows for sure, but with the intelligence of technology, the probabilities are endless.

  1. Very nice entry! My only quibble is that vlogs aren't really the future. They are the present! What is YouTube but a form of video repository w/ comments and replies? Sounds a lot like the vlogs you're talking about. Now, regarding VR, that is here in rudimentary form right now but as technology advances, that's likely to start taking the place of more text-based communications, just as graphic heavy games have taken the place of more text heavy ones.
